Rhodotorula minuta
(Saito) FC Harrison (1928)
|
|
Colonies on Sabouraud dextrose agar at 25°C are pink, smooth and glossy but not mucoid.
On cornmeal following 72 hours incubation at 25°C, only globose yeast cells are produced (2.3-6.5 µm in diameter) [1270].
This isolate is urease positive, nitrate negative, fails to grow on media containing cycloheximide, and demonstrates variable growth at 30°C. Reports of disease in the literature include hip joint sepsis [501], endophthalmitis [1801], and catheter related sepsis in an HIV positive patient [857]. FTL isolates include recovery from blood and lymph node.
